Cayuse Vineyard belongs to Christophe Baron, a Frenchman who grew up in the middle of vineyards and cellars in Champagne (Baron Albert). He is the first Frenchman to settle in the State of Washington, in the Walla Walla Valley.
The vineyard’s name, “Cayuse”, comes from the word “Cailloux” and refers to its stony soil which is similar to that of prestigious French appellations, giving more mature, more concentrated fruit.
If Syrah is the main grape variety of the vineyard, it also hosts Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Tempranillo and Viognier.
Cayuse Vineyards was also the first producer in Washington State to use biodynamic farming methods.
